Bamboo flooring actually comes from very humble beginnings and was originally a much simpler floor covering than what we now know it to be. Even hundreds of years ago, bamboo would be sliced into long strips which were fastened together using twine that was itself made from ultra thin and long slices of bamboo. Often the finished product would resemble a mat, that could be rolled up and stored when not needed. This early form of the bamboo floor is still available to this day, in a somewhat wider variety of shapes, patterns and textures and  has become a much sought after, stylish, hand crafted accessory for peoples homes all over the world.

It was only about a decade or so ago that bamboo flooring started to take on a new form, in the shape of flooring planks that had been precision machined. New technological advances had made it possible to both treat the bamboo to prevent mold and rot and also turn it into floors that could withstand the test of time and thus compete with the traditionally favored hardwood floor choices. The major advantage that bamboo had which started to give it the edge over other types of floors was that was, and still is, an environmentally friendly and renewable resource whose existence is unlikely to be threatened as it is such a fast growing plant, that matures in just a few short years, unlike exotic timbers that can take several decades to reach full maturity.
