Avoiding Problems with Bamboo Flooring - Some Simple Help

You can avoid having problems with bamboo flooring by following some simple rules. In doing so you will be sure to extend the life of your floor so that it lasts for up to several decades.

It is important that steps are taken prior to actually installing the bamboo floor in order to avoid problems later on. You will want to select a floor that is from a reputable manufacturer, and perhaps one that backs up their claims of 'super hard finishing' with a lengthy warranty. You should have little or no difficulty these days to find bamboo floors with a lifetime warranty on their finish.

You will want to make sure that your sub floor is correctly prepared for the new floor to be laid, as those that are not can be the biggest cause of problems. Ensure that it is clean, dry and level. If it isn't clean, the adhesive will have difficulty bonding to it. If it is not dry, it will cause the bamboo to rot over time. If the under floor is not level it will cause squeaking when it is walked on.

Some types of bamboo flooring will need to be installed by a professional fitter, whilst a few are easily installed by a competent Do It Yourselfer. If you do not possess the necessary skills you would be advised to seek professional help as you will otherwise be sure to run into some form of trouble either during or after the laying of the floor.

Fabric protectors should be used on the bottom of furniture legs to stop them from both scratching and denting the bamboo floors surface. The problem of deep scratches and dents is that they may be difficult or expensive to repair, sometimes the complete replacement of very badly damaged sections will be the only option, which incidentally can be a very difficult job to carry out.

Finally, you will want to keep you floor clean at all times and lay down some house rules to ensure that dirt or grit aren't brought in on the shoes of your homes occupants and visitors. Another one would be to make sure that stiletto heeled shoes are not brought into contact with the floor.
